Many drying applications do not require the high velocity impact turbulence provided by the Dryer-Pulveriser and the Cell Mill-Dryer, and this is where the AST dryer provides a perfect economic alternative solution. Many jet milling applications can be satisfied by the simple technology of the spiral jet micronising mill, where the aim is more to do with increasing the active surface area of the finished product than in achieving a specific particle size distribution. However, the importance of the latter is increasing and this requires equipment with advanced integral classification. The PMT SJ range of jet mills is arguably the most advanced in the world, achieving  cut  points  below  those  previously imagined. Atritor represents PMT-Jetmill in the UK and Ireland and, to adapt this large scale mineral technology to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry, Atritor has formed the joint venture company Pharmill Technology Ltd with PMT-Jetmill. Powder classification at various cut points is more and more a part of the increasing sophistication in powder product   specifications.   The need   to produce finer and finer products provides a constant challenge to air classifier designers. Atritor elected to form an association with Ecutec because of its creative and innovative approach, and its established success in providing classifiers for cut points that other internationally recognised suppliers have failed to achieve. Atritor can now offer mill & classifier circuits, with simultaneous drying if necessary. Cut points as low as 3.5 microns are possible. Ecutec has also assisted in the further development of the integral classifier available with the Cell Mill.
